Description
As Per (NEP-2020)syllabus for 5th semester
Dr. Lokman Ali
This course on Social and Economic History of India (1206–1757), designed in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key social structures and economic developments during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal periods.
Covering the time span from the establishment of Turkish rule in India to the advent of British colonialism, the course encourages a critical exploration of agrarian systems, trade and commerce, urbanization, caste and class dynamics, and the role of religion and culture in shaping society.
By focusing on both continuity and change, students will engage with diverse historical perspectives and sources, fostering analytical thinking and contextual understanding of pre-modern India’s socio-economic fabric. The curriculum not only highlights the internal developments but also India’s interactions with the wider world through trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
This paper is structured to build historical sensibility among students and to develop an appreciation for India’s pluralistic past—equipping them with the skills necessary for informed citizenship and interdisciplinary inquiry in the spirit of NEP-2020.
